The island of Vallisaari is located next to Suomenlinna and opened for the public for the first time in May 2016. The island has been used by the military since the 18th Century and most of the fortifications works date from the 19th Century.
Today Vallisaari is a beautiful old fortress island with well preserved fortification works and a unique nature. The island can be reach by waterbus from Market Square during the summerseason. There are cafeterias, a guest harbour and a restaurang at the island. The best way to get familiar with the island is to attend a guided tour.
Guided tours
The Ehrensvärd Society organizes guided tours for groups at Vallisaari. During the tour an authorized Vallisaari guide presents the Aleksanteri route with its historical attractions and the beauty of the finnish archipelago nature. We recommend good and comfortable shoes as well as warm and weatherproof clothes. The tour takes about 1,5 hours.
