The Ehrensvärd Society trains new authorized guides to Suomenlinna in March-April 2016.
The Ehrensvärd Society
The Ehrensvärd Society was founded in 1921 with the purpose of informing the public about the Suomenlinna fortress and its history. In order to achieve its goal, the Ehrensvärd Society maintains the Ehrensvärd Museum and the Suomenlinna Museum, arranges guided tours of Suomenlinna and an adventureous tour for children, publishes literature and develops tourist services. Ehrensvärd Society has also built a historical cannon sloop on the Suomenlinna shipyard. The Society has produced the wide-screen presentation ”Suomenlinna Experience” in the Suomenlinna Museum. In order to finance its activities the Ehrensvärd Society services include Café Piper, the Museum Shop and the Artillery Bay Kiosk.
Guided tours at Suomenlinna
The Ehrensvärd Society has been the only authorized provider of guided tours at Suomenlinna since 1963 by the permision of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Society offers trained and authorized guides and tourist information and uses the best specialists in the training of the guides. The Ehrensvärd Society also organizes guided tours on the islands of Lonna and Vallisaari.
Only authorized guides are allowed to guide at Suomenlinna. The Ehrensvärd Society provides work to all authorized guides. Chinese tours are organized in cooperation with different travel agencies and the guides work for the Ehrensvärd Society. One guided tour at Suomenlinna takes approx 45-60 minutes.
Training for chinese speaking guides
The Ehrensvärd Society organizes in the spring of 2016 a guidecourse for new authorized chinese speaking guides (cantonese or mandarin). The course will be held in english and modeltours in chinese. The requirements for the course is attending the lectures and passing the written and oral exams.
